As a director and theatre maker Edwards has toured internationally for over thirty years producing original work for performance in new writing, classic adaptation, visual theatre, site-based performance, music theatre and film. He holds a Readership in the Centre for Contemporary and Digital Performance at the University, and co-founded and co-edits the on-line journal Body, Space + Technology (BST Journal).

He has been Artistic Director of four companies, and currently is director of the performance group Optik (www.optik.tv), the industry initiative PI Network (www.performanceinitiatives.organd is a director of the production company ScenePool (www.scenepool.co.uk).

Edwards’ performance work is reviewed extensively, and been the subject of analysis by leading commentators that include Sue Broadhurst, John Keefe, Susan Melrose, Patrice Pavis, Tracey Warr, and others.

His recent theatre work has been performed in Sao Paulo, Belgrade, Montréal, Sofia, Helsinki and London. The film Shiver, a collaboration with poet Andrea Brady and artist Nada Stevanovic, premiered at Shunt London in June 2007.
