The Human Centred Design Institute (HCDI)

Human Centred Design is an approach that integrates multidisciplinary expertise towards enhancing human well-being and empowering people. It leads to systems, machines, products, services and processes which are physically, cognitively and emotionally intuitive to use.

The Human Centred Design Institute brings together internationally recognised academics in Ergonomics and Human Factors, Augmented Cognition Systems, Human Centred Design Process, Inclusive Design, Information Architecture, Perception Enhancement Systems, and Design Management. The objectives of the HCDI are as follows:

  • To carry out fundamental and applied research into Human Centred Design
  • To develop a Human Centred Design process management system
  • To explore the potential of inclusive design
  • To identify the key challenges of Human Centred Design in the 21st century
  • To investigate and integrate the methodologies of Human Centred Design
  • To organise and deliver the postgraduate programme in Human Centred Design
  • To promote Human Centred Design to industry and to the general public
  • To publish an international lecture note series in Human Centred Design.

The Human Centred Design Institute also offers the MSc programme starting from September 2009. For more information, please visit the MSc Human Centred Design website or check the presentation flyer for the MSc Human-Centred Design: page 1 and page 2 (lighter version here).
