I am a Chartered Engineer and a Member of IMechE and currently I hold a Lecturer position in Manufacturing and Engineering systems at Brunel University and head of research of the Advanced Manufacturing and Enterprise Engineering (AMEE) Group. Also I am Honorary Research Fellow at the Chemical Engineering Department of Imperial College and member of The Centre for the Analysis of Risk and Optimisation Modeling Applications at Brunel.

I earned my first degree in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London. I also hold a PhD in Computer Aided Systems Engineering from the Mechanical Engineering department of Imperial College . Then, I worked as a Research Associate for three years in the same department. During that time I led a research team in a £6m EU project relating to the development of a pioneering distributed optimisation and control system for ASIC manufacturing and employed evolutionary programming optimisation technology.  I have ten years overall work experience in academic R&D and also in commercial software product development in the area of systems modelling, optimisation, planning and control. I have established a university spin out Software Company in the in which I am still the Technical Director. I have also beein involved in the set up of a semiconductor wafer recycling company based in . In addition I am currently the non executive director in a European IT services company.

Research Interests:

My research is multidisciplinary. Using engineering principles, mathematical modelling techniques and advanced computing technology I am interested in the design, modelling, analysis and optimisation of complex systems. More specifically, my current research interests are as follows:

Autonomous systems – this area includes:

  • intelligent agent-based computing and its application in modelling, simulation and optimisation of complex systems and their interactions

  • artificial intelligence including evolutionary and genetic programming and their application in systems modelling and optimisation

  • data driven modelling and problem inversion

  • design, analysis and control of intelligent manipulation and material handling devices such as robots and other autonomous systems

Responsive and sustainable supply chains – this area includes:

  • supply chain and adaptive value network (AVN) modelling and optimisation

  • responsive and sustainable production and supply chains

  • manufacturing and supply chain lead time compression

  • mass customisation

  • RFID systems and applications

  • grid computing in manufacturing and supply chain management

Micro-nano systems – this area includes:

  • micro machine and process chain development and control

  • grid computing in system design

  • micro manipulation

  • self assembly
