The Department of Information Systems and Computing (DISC) is home to a vibrant and talented community of academics, researchers and students. The Department was ranked top in the UK in terms of 'Research Power' in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) and is home to the largest research group of its type in the country. Recognised for high quality teaching and research, we attract staff and students from all over the world. Driven by our research expertise and supported by excellent facilities, our undergraduate and postgraduate courses help students to develop their academic abilities and the critical skills required for the workplace such as evidence-based analysis and decision-making, problem-solving and project management skills. Undergraduate study

Our portfolio of Undergraduate courses are designed to ensure that our students have the knowledge and skills that they'll need for their future careers. Taking a placement year (also known as a 'sandwich' year) during your degree is a great way to enhance your degree, career and earning potential. Keep the costs of PhD study to a minimum and apply for one of 15 Isambard Research Scholarships. Research

The Department is an internationally recognised Centre of Excellence in biological and healthcare informatics, human-computer interaction, information science, information systems, intelligent data analysis, and software engineering. Our network of public and private sector collaborators ensures that our research is timely, relevant and has a positive impact on society.

Our academics are recognised for their high quality publications and leadership in their subjects - with recent RAE 2008 results confirming this. The Department is home to one in five of the UK’s ‘World Leading’ researchers, as well as 17% of the UK’s ‘Internationally Excellent’ academics in this area*.
