Research Interests
As a Director of the Information Systems Evaluation and Integration Group Dr Elliman's recent research work is primarily concerned with the evaluation and development of information systems (IS) to support high-level professional activities. This is a two-pronged interest. One is to understanding the experts view of the world, the decisions they wish to take and the data that is essential to the decision making task. The other is the evaluation of information systems, their impact on the organisation and its business processes. A significant thread in recent work has been the deployment and use of systems within the public sector (sometimes called eGovernment). The fit between both the business, the professional, or knowledge, workers needs and the IS is critical. A significant part of the work has involved the development and use of business process simulation to understand these dynamics. Even within a single IS the structure of the database (or object model) is project (or case) specific and evolves over the life of the system. Development of software for each instance is highly expensive; therefore the identification of techniques for producing generic systems with the flexibility to manage this evolution is also an important interest.
