A wide range of effective learning, teaching and assessment methods
If you are interested in studying sport in all its diversity and forging a career in sport-related work, we welcome your application to study at Brunel. We recognise that students learn in different ways and we include a wide range of effective learning, teaching and assessment methods. There is a strong link between research and teaching enhanced by Sport Sciences' vibrant research culture with its two research centres, regular seminar programme and visiting scholars. There are staff with national and international reputations for their research and publications and some who are accredited by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES), which enables them to work with high performance athletes.
We care about your progress and welfare. As our recent QAA review noted "students are particularly appreciative of the friendly and approachable nature of subject staff and ready availability of academic guidance and pastoral support" (QAA report). Whether you are undecided about which modules to take, unsure about how to apply for a student loan, or need a reference, your personal tutor will be there to help.
We prepare you for a broad range of career opportunities in a wide range of sport-related jobs, in areas such as coaching, consultancy, fitness testing and training, higher education and research, journalism, sport development, sport management, teaching and youth work. In recent years, our graduates have found positions with the UK and regional Sports Councils, national governing bodies of sport, international organisations, professional clubs, local authorities, in the leisure industry, sports clothing/footwear companies, the pharmaceutical industry, the armed forces, and teaching.
The University is in West London, next to the M25 and the M40, and close to the M1 and M4. Our location means that all areas of the country are easily accessible by car. We are also well served by public transport, and central London is only a tube ride away via the Piccadilly and Metropolitan lines. So, we are ideally situated for you to combine the advantages of campus life with the sporting amenities and nightlife of the "big city". In addition, our close proximity to Heathrow Airport makes our location invaluable for overseas students and those who are elite competitors. The Uxbridge campus is spacious and has a vibrant atmosphere encompassing the Students' Union and Halls of Residence. All sport sciences teaching takes place on the Uxbridge campus.
