Lord Hailsham was the University Visitor from 1976 to 1995. During a long and distinguished legal and political career, he held a number of senior posts including Lord Privy Seal, Leader of the House of Lords, Lord President of the Council, Secretary of State for Education and Science and Lord High Chancellor. He was Rector of Glasgow University from 1959-62 and Chancellor of the University of Buckingham from 1983-1992.
