The Rt Hon Anthony Wedgewood Benn PC MP

Tony Benn won his first seat as Labour candidate for Bristol South East in 1951. He served as Postmaster General in Harold Wilson's government in the 1960s and later became Minister of Technology and with it the responsibility for overseeing the development of Concorde.

He was Secretary of State for Industry in the Labour government of 1974 and Secretary of State for Energy the following year. In opposition, he became MP for Chesterfield in 1984.
