Gillian Moore combines the job of Artistic Director of the London Sinfonietta with playing a key role in audience development at the South Bank Centre in London. In 1983, Gillian Moore pioneered the role of orchestras in education by setting up the London Sinfonietta’s now internationally renowned education programme, bringing contemporary music into schools, prisons and the community. In 1998, she brought this inclusive approach to contemporary music to the role of Artistic Director of the International Society for Contemporary Music's World Music Days in Manchester. In her current roles at the London Sinfonietta and the South Bank, she is setting a benchmark for reaching new audiences through innovative programming and creating unexpected connections between genres and art-forms.
Gillian Moore talks, writes and broadcasts regularly and is a frequently invited contributor to BBC Radio and Television. She has played an important role in shaping arts education in the UK and abroad, over two decades, as a co-author of the National Curriculum in music; as a Visiting Professor at the Royal College of Music; and as an adviser and consultant to orchestras, theatre companies and funding bodies.
