Information for Disabled Applicants

Positive about disabled=Brunel University is committed to the principles of promoting disability equality, preventing and eliminating unlawful disability discrimination in employment.

Jobcentre Plus has awarded the Disability Symbol to Brunel University for demonstrating its commitment to being Positive about Disabled People in employment, recruitment, retention and career progression.

In acceptance of the Disability Symbol, Brunel University has agreed to:

  1. Interview all applicants with a disability who meet the essential (minimum) criterion for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities.
  2. Ensure there is a mechanism in place to discuss at any time, but at least once a year, with disabled employees what can be done to make sure they can develop and use their abilities.
  3. To make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment.
  4. To take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make the commitments work.
  5. Each year, to review these five commitments and what has been achieved, plan ways to improve on them and let employees and the Jobcentre Plus know about progress and future plans.

In order to assess the suitability of the University environment in terms of access and support for the purpose of employment, disabled candidates are advised to contact the Access to Work Business Centre on 0208 426 3110.

Alternatively disabled candidates may contact the local Disability Employment Advisor, Jobcentre Plus, Uxbridge on 020 8426 3000.
