Paul Thomas CBE
Paul R Thomas CBE joined Brunel as Chief Operating Officer in 2007; he oversees many of the University’s key professional functions, including Academic Services, Communications, Marketing and Student Recruitment, Commercial Services, Estates, HR and all campus operations. He has overseen much of the modernisation of the campus during his time at the University and is currently leading the planning for the delivery of an exciting new health campus at the University.
Following his graduation from City University with BSc (Hons) in Systems and Management, Paul enjoyed a full career in the Royal Air Force, retiring in the rank of Air Commodore. During this time, he undertook a wide range of roles on Royal Air Force stations in the United Kingdom, including the command of RAF Uxbridge, and enjoyed a 3 year period working on the British Defence staff in Washington DC. Working at director level he served in Command Headquarters and in the Ministry of Defence.
My responsibility is to provide an enabling environment for all teaching and research at the University, and to make the campus an attractive, safe and enjoyable location for all those who live and work here. It is a thoroughly engaging and ever-changing role that deals with the day to day life of the University whilst at the same time planning to meet its vision for the future.
Paul is a President and Trustee of the Hillingdon Partnership Trust, the President of the 1083 (Uxbridge) Squadron ATC and the Chair of Trustees of the Friends of No 11 Group Operations Bunker on the former RAF Uxbridge Site, from where the Battle of Britain over the South East of England was controlled during World War 2.
Paul was appointed as a MBE in 1988 for his services to defence in North America and was subsequently awarded a CBE in 2007 for his services to the Royal Air Force.
