How to exhibit in the Beldam Gallery


Beldam Gallery

The Beldam Gallery accepts unsolicited proposals for exhibitions from professional artists of all disciplines, including live art, video, sound, new media, installation, photography, painting, drawing, sculpture and craft.

 

The Beldam Gallery is located next to the University Reception at the heart of the campus and is clearly visible from the university's central concourse. Controllable lighting from metal halide and halogen fittings offers good colour rendering of artworks and some natural light is provided by two skylights at the south end of the gallery.  Electrical outlets are housed in the floor and internet access is available. The fixed gallery walls provide 144 running feet of display surface providing the capacity to show a wide range of exhibitions.

Artists wishing to exhibit at Beldam Gallery will need to send their exhibition proposal to the University Curator.  This document will need to include: 

  - A statement about your practice
 

 - A CV or other information/ documentation detailing previous projects

 - A detailed exhibition proposal explaining why you think your work shoudl eb shown at th Beldam Gallery

 - Documentation of current work: up to 15 digital images on a CD/ up to 15 images hard copy/ up to 10 minutes of footage on DVD or video, or up to 10 minutes of sound work on CD.

You may wish to include publications and catalogues in addition.  Please note that we may not be able to respond individually to all proposals we receive.  Unless you include a stamped addressed envelope for the return of your submission, your proposal will be retained on file.  Please do not send any original material.

Colour

Call to Artists

Professional artists
who explore the use of colour as a theme for their practice are invited to submit proposalstotake part in an exhibition at the Beldam Gallery, Brunel University West London, from January to March 2011.  Approaches to this theme may include investigations into pigment and the chemical makeup of a colour, a fascination with a particular colour/ range of colours, or other colour inspired explorations. Artists with an interest in science and practitioners whose work cross the boundaries between arts and science are encouraged to apply.

This special exhibition hopes to allow audiences
an insight intoa broad range of contemporary artpractice, exploring the use of colour and the role that colour plays within the work of a diverse selection of artists. Proposals will be accepted from collaborative artists or individuals.
Submitted works may take the form of painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, film, video, sculpture, installation and other media. The University Curator will select the works to be included in the exhibition, and selection will be based on quality and diversity of technique, concept and approach.

You will also need to consider the installation requirements for your work and detail any fixings needed and suggested hanging arrangements, in your proposal. Your work will be installed by Brunel University Arts Centre staff. If your work needs to be installed by you personally, you will need to note this in your proposal, explaining how you will undertake this, what equipment will be needed, and any health and safety considerations necessary.
You may find it useful to look at the University’s Health and Safety guidance at www.brunel.ac.uk/artscentre . If selected, a full risk assessment will need to be carried out in consultation with the Arts Centre Resources Manager, and your work may need to be adapted in response to this.

All work will need to be delivered to the Beldam Gallery at an agreed time on or before 10th January 2011, and collected by arrangement before 31st March 2011. You will need to be able to make your own arrangements for delivery and collection of any work in the exhibition. (Work cannot be stored after the collection date.) Some support towards transportation costs may be possible, but please detail whether this will be necessary in your proposal.

Proposals can only be returned if a stamped addressed envelope is provided. Please do not send original work.

The Beldam Gallery, part of the University Arts Centre, is situated on Brunel’s campus, next to the University main reception desk in the Wilfred Brown Building. Both reception and the gallery are fully open to the public 10.00am - 5.00pm Monday - Friday. If driving to Brunel, you will need to use the Kingston Lane entrance only, and parking restrictions apply on campus between 8am -5pm Monday-Friday. The gallery is easily accessible by foot from Cleveland Rd.    Uxbridge underground station is a 20 minute walk/ five minute bus ride away and is served by the Piccadilly and Metropolitan line. The U3 bus stops right outside the main university reception where the gallery is based. The gallery has full disability access, and disabled parking is available near the gallery entrance.  Full location and transport details are available on www.brunel.ac.uk/about/where
The Beldam Gallery is not a commercial space, but does have a history of sales. If your work is for sale then you can notify the curator of pricing details. Gallery commission is 20%.

Professional artistswho explore the use of paint as a medium and subject matter for their workare invited to submit proposalstotake part in an exhibition atthe Beldam Gallery, Brunel University, West London, in February and March 2010.
This special exhibition hopes to allow audiencesan insight intoa broad range of contemporary artpractice that explores the use of paint, through showcasing the work of a diverse selection of artists. Proposals will be accepted from collaborative artists or individuals.
 
Submitted works may take the form of any kind of painted surface, and proposals can include three dimensional work. Video and film work that is explicitly about paint and painting will also be considered. The University Curator will select the works to be included in the exhibition, and selection will be based on quality and diversity of technique and approach.

Hillingdon Council and Brunel University’s Beldam Gallery present REVEAL, a project that highlights the quality of artistic practice in Hillingdon. Visual artists, performers, musicians and writers are encouraged to apply for one of two opportunities: a contemporary art exhibition at the Beldam Gallery, Brunel University in Uxbridge, or a performance and live art showcase at the Great Barn, at Manor Farm in Ruislip during July and August 2009. The project will provide exposure for the region’s artists and arts communities, revealing their work to new audiences. There will be an events and education programme to complement both projects.
This is a competitive process and all proposals will be viewed by Brunel University’s Curator and the acting Head of Arts at Hillingdon Council. Works will be selected on the basis of quality and of suitability to the venue. Artists are encouraged to be ambitious and present their work in the highest quality way possible.   There is no theme for either opportunity and your application should genuinely reflect your own practice and interests.

Artists living or working in Hillingdon are invited to apply, and you will need to detail your connection with the Borough in your application.

This special exhibition hopes to allow audiencesan insight intoa broad range of contemporary artpractice within our region, through showcasing the work of a diverse selection of artists. Proposals for the Beldam Gallery will be accepted from collaborative artists or individuals.  Submitted works may take the form of drawing, painting, video, sound, photography, craft, documentation, digital media, ceramics, installation or sculpture.
Artists will work with the university curator throughout the delivery of the project. There is no exhibition fee, however a small materials budget of up to £200 will be available for selected artists. You may need to detail in your proposal what costs you envisage incurring, and how the £200 will contribute to these costs.

The Gallery is unattended when open. Video, sound or digital media should be supplied on a continuous loop (the Gallery is open for 7 hours each weekday). Manual operation of equipment will be subject to Arts Centre staff availability, if the use of electronic timers and sensors for electrical equipment is a possibility, you should consider this.

If your work will require electrical equipment, please list what will be needed, and whether it will be provided by yourself or the gallery. All electrical equipment brought on site will be PAT tested in situ by the University’s contractors and there is a charge of £1.75 per item for this.
All work will need to be delivered to the Beldam Gallery at an agreed time on or before 22nd June 2009, and collected by arrangement before 6pm on 26th August 2009. You will need to be able to make your own arrangements for delivery and collection of any work in the exhibition. (Work cannot be stored after the collection date.)

This project is subject to funding, should funding be withdrawn then the project will not go ahead.  Proposals can only be returned if a stamped addressed envelope is provided. Please do not send original work.

Performance and Live Art opportunity at the Great Barn
12th July- 23rd July 2009

There will be four special events taking place at the Great Barn in Manor Farm, Ruislip. These events are taking place to highlight the talent of people who work, live or play in Hillingdon.
Two of these events are open for submissions.

Performance showcase: An opportunity to highlight Hillingdon’s most interesting and diverse work whether this be opera singing, innovative new writing, live art, a fusion of clashing art genres or captivating Chinese dancing. Please use your imagination. If you do not think this opportunity is applicable to you but are still interested in submitting a proposal please contact Kris Holliday to talk through your ideas.

A night of live music: A night of exciting, contemporary pop/rock music organised by Launchpad; our young people’s arts program.

Additional information about the Great Barn at Manor Farm:
The refurbishment of Manor Farm was completed in 2008. It incorporates a unique collection of historic farm buildings, ancient monument and landscape features set within twenty-two acres of conservation area. The site is a popular and vibrant facility, hosting weekly community events, performing arts, an education and interpretation centre, tea room and library.
 
The Great Barn was built in the 13th century. Internal and external renovation work was completed in the refurbishment with the addition of an improved lighting system, the restoration of the double doors opening into the east courtyard and the installation of a sandstone floor surface.
 
The Barn is capable of accommodating a wide range of events from art exhibitions to craft
fairs to weddings and social events. For performances of music and theatre, the Barn will have a potential maximum capacity of 400.
 
The Barn can be found on Manor Farm site, Pinn Way, Ruislip, Middlesex, HA4 7QL.

Call to Artists

Professional artists whose work relies on, or explores the use of, their collective senses are invited to submit proposals to take part in an exhibition at the Beldam Gallery, Brunel University, West London, in July/ August 2008.  Practitioners who require audiences to utilise senses other than sight to experience their practise, and proposals that particularly explore the use of sound, touch, and smell, will be welcomed.
 
This special exhibition hopes to allow audiences an insight into a broad range of contemporary art practice, through showcasing the work of a diverse selection of artists.  Proposals will be accepted from collaborative artists or individuals, and Deaf and disabled artists are particularly encouraged to apply.  Submitted works may take the form of video, sound, photography, documentation, digital media, drawing, painting, site specific installation or sculpture.
 
Artists will work with the university curator throughout the delivery of the project and the installation of the exhibition. There is no exhibition fee, and support will be provided for transportation and installation of all works.  A small materials budget will be available for selected artists.
