Made in Brunel Update

It has been a busy few weeks at MiB HQ. At the beginning on November, a group of experienced alumni joined the final year design students to provide an industry perspective on their project ideas. Over the space of three evenings, 43 alumni offered their input to help students refine their designs and move them forward. Alumni from Dyson, Seymour Powell, Boeing, P&G, Brompton and many others came back to the campus for the event. Both students and alumni enjoyed the experience as they made the most of their Brunel network.

Two weeks later, Brunel hosted a sponsors’ day for the Innovation Funding Platform, which provides support for a number of final year Design students. Twenty students presented their ideas for addressing society’s challenges to a panel of judges in a bid to secure funding to assist with the development of their projects.

The diverse projects included purpose-built walking frames for those in developing countries, green algae energy forms, light therapy for autistic children and a recycling tent programme for festival-goers. The ideas and the students behind them captivated their audience with dynamic and unique approaches to the problems and the sponsors hope to offer funding and development support to all 20 projects presented.

To round off an exciting November, the MiB team revealed this year’s brand and officially launched Made in Brunel for 2014-15. You can watch the introduction to “Values” here.
