Leading British film director Jake West will be visiting Brunel University on Monday 10th October to speak with 3rd year students on the new Film and TV studies Analysis of a Work Experience Module about his career as a contemporary UK filmmaker. Jake will be accompanied by Marc Morris (Nucleus Films), one of the UK's most prominent film finders and distributors, who will also be talking to students about film careers.

Jake is best known for recent features such as the 2009 hit Dog House

(starring Brit. icons Noel Clarke and Danny Dyer), as well as Evil Aliens (2006) and the influential vampire movie Razorblade Smile (1998). Beyond these credits, Jake also recently completed the critically acclaimed documentary 'Video Nasties: Moral Panic, Censorship and Videotape', which considers how 1970s horror films became reclassified in Britain during the political context of the early 1980s. The documentary won a number of awards at leading festivals and is reviewed by BBC TV’s Mark Kermode in the following link:

We shall screen the documentary at 4pm in CH005 and at 5pm we are delighted that both Jake and Marc will join us in CH005 to discuss the project and film careers in general.

The visit is part of the new Film and TV Work Placements Module which brings leading industry figures into Brunel to help students develop future media careers.

Jake and Marc’s visit will be invaluable to all students registered on the Film and TV Work Placement module, who should attend (unless they are currently already away on placement).

We also warmly invite other students and staff to the event, but due to room limitations early attendance is strongly advised.
