Year: 2003-2006

After graduating from Brunel in 2006 I trained as a music therapist and qualified in 2008. My clinical practice has included working with children, young people, and adults with learning disabilities; and adults with acquired brain injury. In 2010 I was awarded a PhD studentship to undertake research in music therapy for adults with acquired brain injury. I have presented at international conferences including the World Federation of Music Therapy World Congress and the International Brain Injury Association World Congress. I have articles published in international journals such as the Arts in Psychotherapy and The Nordic Journal of Music Therapy. When I’m asked how I got into music therapy I remember my placement year on my course at Brunel. I obtained placements in many areas including event management and live sound operation. For one of my placements I spent ten-weeks with a music therapist in a school for children with special needs. Through this experience I knew I had found a way to use music that is truly rewarding. My experience of learning at Brunel allowed me grow as a musician and follow my interests with passion and individuality.
