After almost 2 years hiatus recovering from a rare and debilitating illness, 2012 was the year I returned to music. I jumped straight in, visiting Ireland to support Irish songstress Lisa Hannigan by personal request; working with English folk band The Unthanks in Manchester for a week long residency and working more closely with Adrian McNally (Producer/Arranger of The Unthanks) and renowned songwriter, Guy Chambers, on the Harbour of Songs album which was part of IF: Milton Keynes Festival 2012 'Lone Twin Boat Project'. In November I took part in and went on to win The 'Next Big Thing' competition (previously won by Ed Sheeran before signing with a major record label) and most recently found myself at Decca Records HQ (yes, I am still pinching myself!). Right now I am concentrating on recording and producing an record which I intend to tour later this year.
As cliché as it sounds; returning from what I can only describe as 'rock bottom' (my illness had initially left me blind, deaf and paralysed) I soon realised that life really is too short to put off doing the things you love. I live and breathe music, so it makes complete sense to me to pursue my dreams.
As well as having direct access to quality recording facilities and top of the range equipment, Brunel provided a team of exceptionally knowledgeable and talented professors and lecturers. To have such highly regarded and sought after musicians and composers as ones lecturers..?! I consider myself extremely lucky to have been taught by such a team.
