BSc (Hons) Business and Management (eBusiness Systems)
Brunel University 2012

Why Brunel
After visiting Brunel, my final decision about my future university was very clear. The first thing that caught my interest was its campus. It has everything: restaurants, a bank, bars, coffee shops, a massive library, an incredible sports and athletics centre all in an easy reach for its students. This really appealed to me. It was clear to me that this would be where I would like to live and study and it wasn't long before I became a student here.
Business Life
The Business Life Programme helped me realize the importance of practicing skills rather than simply learning about them. I realised that the programme was not only able to add immense value to my degree but also to me as an individual. The programme prepared me and pointed me in the right direction by helping me maintain a close connection with successful professionals in industry. The workshops and training clearly reflect the skills I have gained and developed through the employability transcript that definitely helps my CV stand out.
My fellow Business Life Ambassadors are not only my colleagues but are also a great group of successful individuals who I am sure I have established a lifelong connection with.
How BBS added value to the degree
Being able to practice and develop my skills throughout my three years as an undergraduate has immensely supported me towards understanding the real meaning of being a professional.
Angel Chen - BSc (Hons) Business and Management (Accounting)
“The support to help me gain my placement was beyond my expectations”
Business Analyst, Morgan Stanley
BSc (Hons) Business and Management (Accounting)
Brunel University 2010

Why Brunel
I came to Brunel because of the sandwich degree. I wanted to gain industrial experience before graduation so that I can be “ahead of the game” when I graduate.
How BBS added value to the degree
I gained relevant employability skills in the academic curriculum. The practical aspects of the curriculum such as learning to use accounting software and the technical skills related to an accounting career were well covered in the course.
In addition to academic studies I also developed many “soft” skills such as working with other students on group projects and doing presentations to a large audience.
There were ample opportunities to develop oneself in the Business School and the onus is on the student to “grab” those opportunities - support is always at hand.
The Placement Year
I did a year’s placement in Morgan Stanley. The experience was invaluable as I had first-hand experience in the Operations department.
During my placement year, my performance was monitored by the placement tutor and there were regular contacts from the university. I felt supported in my personal and professional development by the academic staff.
Soon afterwards, I was offered a graduate job by Morgan Stanley based on my performance during my placement year.
Dilpreet Dhugga - BSc (Hons) Business and Management (Accounting)
“Brunel has one of the best business schools in the country”
Financial Accounts Executive, Monster Energy
BSc (Hons) Business and Management (Accounting)
Brunel University 2012

Why Brunel
I knew I wanted to study Management Accounting and BBS made me feel at home. After my tour of the campus and the School, I could not visualise myself at any other University!
How BBS added value to the degree
BBS don’t just believe in educating their students, they create opportunities for them to evolve and from which they can obtain success. I was lucky enough to be selected to represent BBS in an Ambassador role. Overall, I gained a lot more than just an education: I gained a life experience.
The Placement Year
My placement year was at the pharmaceutical company, Pfizer. Doing a placement gave me an advantage when searching for employment once I finished my degree as it allowed me to put the theory I learned into practice.
This practical knowledge amplified my appeal to potential employers, as I was able to leave University with an education, and hands-on experience as well.
Siobhan Feeney - BSc (Hons) Business & Management
“The opportunities available to me have been outstanding”
Returning from volunteering for Global Vision International
BSc (Hons) Business & Management
Brunel University 2012

What I gained by coming to Brunel
Throughout my time at Brunel, the academic standard of lecturing was exceedingly high. I can already feel the value that pro-actively taking part in BBS and Business Life will bring to my future success. Every single application has requested information on additional roles and extra-curricular activities outside academia.
Business Life
Business Life gave me the opportunity to develop many skills such as team work, and leadership. It increased my confidence in communication and presenting. I was provided with endless amounts of development and networking opportunities. It lead me to meet and work with some really amazing people!
The Placement Year
With the help and guidance of the Business School and the Placement and Careers Centre, I was able to secure a fantastic Marketing placement at SAP. This placement most definitely increased my motivation and contributed to my success in achieving a First Class Honours in my final year. I was awarded 'Best Placement Student Award', The 'John Quinn Memorial Prize', and complimentary membership of the Chartered Management Institute in recognition of being one of Brunel University’s top 2012 graduates.
It was fantastic to be recognised and rewarded for my hard work and was a great way to motivate me to work as hard as I could and increase my confidence in becoming an employable graduate. A huge thank you to the Business School for their fantastic support!
Phillip Hughes - BSc (Hons) Business & Management (e-Business Systems)
“Brunel Business School has supportive academic staff”
IM Project Manager & EMEA Sales IT Ops Leader GE Aviation
BSc (Hons) Business & Management (e-Business Systems)
Brunel University 2010

My Brunel experience
I wanted to study in a campus university where there are lots of student activities happening on campus hence I chose Brunel. I made the right choice.
How BBS added value to the degree
Brunel Business School has supportive academic staff and the curriculum was designed to help students to gain graduate employment. Many of the modules were tailored to develop students’ work skills that are sought after by employers such as communication and working in a team.
Most of the modules have elements of helping students to be “work ready” such as analysing financial data, preparing a marketing plan etc.
There are many business schools to choose from - but I am glad that I chose Brunel.
My Placement Year
I did a year’s placement at Warner Brothers. I had a lot of fun and also met many high calibre colleagues whom I have kept in touch with. The placement allowed me to learn about how a business operates in the real world and understand the challenges they face.
The importance of getting to work on time, ability to negotiate with senior managers, sharing best practices, managing expectations and executive presence; these are just some of the things you get to experience and learn from first hand.
I can truly say that without the placement I would not have been successful in securing a graduate job so quickly.
Since Graduating
Since I graduated from Brunel I completed GE’s Information Technology Leadership Program (ITLP). Technology is everywhere, and subsequently my work has truly given me an appreciation for working in a global environment. Over the last two years I have spent extended periods of time in the US and China, as well as having visited Paris, Munich and Dubai.
I’m now leading a high-visibility, major technical implementation for GE Aviation, as well as leading IT Operations for our Sales Team across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
I never thought I could achieve the career position I have today so quickly, with so many prospects still ahead. The mentoring I received at Brunel and the experience I gained during my Placement are things that I brought to GE and still depend on to this day.
Amar Mistry - BSc (Hons) Business & Management
“I believe that the Business School added great value to my degree and my job”
Revenue Accountant, LBi
BSc (Hons) Business & Management
Brunel University 2012

How BBS added value to the degree
I now work with very senior people at my current organisation, and having had a great experience working with members of Brunel Business School as a student ambassador this gave me a sound footing. As I work in an accounting role now, I sometimes look back at the accounting modules that I studied and there are some things that you can directly apply to work.
I met a lot of great students in the Business School, learned from some great professors over the last four years and even have a good relationship with the Placement & Careers Centre (PCC).
These relationships are the reason why I have more confidence and it has made me the person that I am today. I am happy to say that I am still in contact with a few professors from the school. I really enjoyed my time at Brunel and still look back very fondly on all the experiences that I had.
Business Life
I learned a great deal from Business Life. The skills that I learned such as the ability to speak in public and to work with different team members has helped me in my current job. I was a shy person previously but by being a student ambassador, I was soon able to speak to over 100 students confidently.
This is definitely something I couldn't of done a few years ago. It is a combination of skills learned and people that I met that has really stood me in good stead for the future.
Daria Moseeva - BSc (Hons) International Business
"I gained confidence and experience"
MSc student in International Public Policy (UCL)
BSc (Hons) International Business
Brunel University 2012

My Brunel experience
I was a Business Life ambassador whilst in the Business School and this greatly enriched my experience. I really enjoyed working with the Business School and fellow ambassadors, and developed a range of team working, organisation and presentation skills.
How BBS added value to the degree
I fully appreciated the value of the Business Life programme after graduating from Brunel. The process of learning through Business allowed me to build on my knowledge about job hunting, the skills I need to have, what I should expect from the world of work, how to behave on an interview and so on.
I feel I have this extensive knowledge and am ready to use it whenever necessary. I don't need to buy self-help books or pay for external coaching. I feel lucky to have acquired employability skills alongside getting my degree from Brunel Business School.
I have applied this knowledge and am now successfully running societies in another University.
