In Memoriam - Dr Christina Scandelius
It is with great sadness that the University must announce the passing of Dr Christina Scandelius, Lecturer in Marketing and Sustainability and MBA Deputy Director, on 6 May 2016.
The Brunel community, in particular colleagues and students of the Brunel Business School, paid tribute to Christina.
"We have lost a respected and valued member of our staff. Excellent communicator, self-starter, motivator, organiser, talented, beloved colleague, dear friend; these are just a few of Christina's qualities expressed by her colleagues in an outpouring of sadness from the Business School community."
Christina was the Deputy Director of the Brunel MBA programme and Lecturer in Marketing and Sustainability. Academically gifted, with a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering and later an MBA from Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden, she acquired a PhD in Sustainability and Corporate Communications from the Brunel Business School.
Christina had 20 years of International Business and Marketing experience acquired from working in multinational corporations in Sweden, the Netherlands and in the UK. She conducted a number of consultancy projects, advising on Business Development and Marketing Strategies for corporations across the US, Asia, Europe and Middle East. Her consultancy work also included designing and delivering workshops on strategic marketing to independent business consultants, business managers and to market analysts. Christina had recently been a member of a task force group within UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme) aiming at developing sustainable value chains with a focus on small to medium-sized (SME) enterprises.
An Associate Editor for the International Journal of Environmental, Cultural, Economic and Social Sustainability, and for the International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment, she was also a reviewer for Industrial Marketing Management, an international Journal of Brand Management and Corporate Communications. Her research interests covered core themes of CSR/Corporate Sustainability and Communication Management, Ethical Corporate Marketing, Stakeholder Management, Corporate Heritage and CSR, as well as Life Cycle Sustainability Management. Christina recently published two articles in highly ranked journals, namely the Journal of Business Research and Industrial Marketing Management.
Christina was instrumental in the Brunel Business School being re-awarded the highly prized AMBA accreditation. She was an enthusiastic promoter of the MBA programme and worked tirelessly towards its development. She has been a valued contributor to module design and teaching in Marketing and Sustainability using advanced pedagogical methods and techniques.
Originally from Sweden, Christina was multilingual in Swedish, English, German, French and Dutch. Her personal interests were her family, nature and environment, hiking, skiing and golfing. She leaves behind a loving husband Riko and two young children Emma and Carl.
We cannot overstate the immense contribution Christina made to the School and to the University. She will be a huge loss to the Brunel community.
