Summary
Professor Dickson’s research interests embrace two main themes - the effective management of technological innovation, and the behaviour and development of small firms. Both topics have attracted significant ESRC and EU research grants and have resulted in numerous publications. His most recently completed project, funded by the Institute of Small Business and Enterprise (ISBE), examined the behaviour of founders of small, entrepreneurial theatre companies. Currently he is involved in two collaborative projects between UK and Indian academic institutions that focus on the training needs of small manufacturing firms and on graduate employability. Another research project, under the auspices of the EU’s FP7 programme, on establishing the feasibility of a European wide network of medical databases, is currently under negotiation with likely commencement in early 2012.
