The 3rd National Student Conference in Metallic Materials 2013 will be hosted by Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technologies and The EPSRC Centre – LiME at Brunel University.

The two-day event (17-18 June 2013) is expected to attract over 100 research students and academics across the UK with interest in metallic materials, many of whom will present their results as lectures and posters.

Conference themes cover fundamental research, manufacturing, design and processing, as well as characterization and properties of metal materials. A call for abstracts is now open, and students have until April 5th to submit.

Confirmed key-note speakers include Mr Mark White, Jaguar Land Rover, and Professor Peter Lee, University of Manchester. Mark White will be talking about some of the most important issues and challenges facing the metallurgical industry through the next ten years, while Peter Lee will be giving a talk on the cutting-edge materials research being undertaken in a new centre at Manchester.

The Advanced Metallic Systems Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) began the conference series in 2011.  The CDT funded by the EPSRC is based at the Universities of Sheffield and Manchester.

BCAST is very proud to host the National Student Conference in Metallic Materials.  Chairman Professor Dmitry Eskin: “This conference will bring together young researchers from many universities that are active in metals research. The participants present the future of science, research and technology development of metals. We expect leading academics and industrial researchers to join the forum. Together with the Advanced Metallic Systems CDT we hope to contribute to dissemination of knowledge as well as simply give a chance for students, academics and researchers to get to know each other and initiate fruitful collaboration.” February 2013
