About Ian

Dr Ian Stone was appointed to a Lectureship in BCAST at Brunel University in 2010. Following the award of his PhD from the University of Surrey he carried out research at Sheffield and Oxford Universities. He has 16 years experience of metallurgical research with over 30 publications, and has extensive experience in the management of externally funded research grants. His past research has been in the fields of rapid solidification, metal matrix composites, microstructure development during solidification, spray forming, microstructure and properties of semi-solid alloys, rheocasting and the role of grain refiners on secondary intermetallic phase selection. In the course of this work he has installed, commissioned and operated a number of pilot and industrial scale metals processing facilities.
