About Dmitry

Professor Dmitry Eskin (1963) joined Brunel University and BCAST in January 2011. He received his Engineering and PhD degrees in Russia and worked in Russian Academy of Sciences (1988-1999). Since 1999, he was a Fellow in Materials innovation institute and since 2008 also an Associate Professor in Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands). Prof. Eskin is a well known specialist in physical metallurgy and solidification processing of light alloys, author and co-author of more than 150 scientific papers. He also authored 4 monographs: “Advanced Aluminum Alloys Containing Scandium” (1998), “Iron in Aluminum Alloys” (2002), “Multicomponent Phase Diagrams: Applications for Commercial Aluminum Alloys” (2005), “Physical Metallurgy of Direct-Chill Casting of Aluminum Alloys” (2008). Current interests include fundamentals of continuous casting, effects of external fields on solidification, and composite materials.

Current projects:

• Elimination of macro-segregation in AA6xxx extrusion alloys by melt conditioning (Lime/SAPA, PhD student Mr. S. Jones)
• Development of a degassing system for aluminium castings processing based on ultrasound (FP7, Research Associate vacancy)
