About Krishna

Krishna Burugapalli joined BIB as a Research Fellow in April 2008, after a Post Doctoral training in the field of Tissue Engineering at National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). He has over 10 years experience in the design of novel biomaterials for biomedical applications such as drug delivery and tissue engineering. His doctoral work at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi resulted in patented drug delivery vehicles based on natural and synthetic polymers, while his post doctoral work at NUIG, led to the development of novel extracellular matrix based bio-mimetic scaffold (platform technology) for a variety of tissue engineering applications. In particular, the focus of his research has been the development of novel polymeric biomaterials with tailored biodegradation and biocompatibility. Currently, he is developing novel tissue engineering coatings for biosensors at BIB. In addition to the development and testing of novel biomaterials, Dr. Burugapalli has significant expertise in biocompatibility assessment of medical devices, and has also developed quantitative systems for objective evaluation of biological responses to materials.
