At the fundamental level we are well known for the development of ultrasound wave theory, experimental methods, and modelling techniques.

At the applications level we collaborate with numerous industrial partners. Most of the research work is split between ultrasonic guided wave methods and those employing bulk waves.

Some examples of research activities are:

  • Ultrasonic detection and removal of fouling for pipes
  • Long range ultrasonic inspection at high temperatures
  • Optimisation of manual ultrasonic NDT
  • Long range condition monitoring for rails

BIC is focused on using its research activities to expand knowledge and develop solutions to problems.

BIC also has very strong links to industry and it is vital that the ultimate application of the research work is not forgotten.
