Education Annual Public Lecture 2014, Thursday 5th June 2014
EDUCATION IN THE 21ST CENTURY: THE UK CONTEXT
Dr Mary Bousted, General Secretary of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, will deliver the second Education Annual Public Lecture.
International comparisons of education performance now dominate the media and political debates about the quality of education in the UK. Far too often, however, the quality of educational debate in England is debased by selective readings of research findings (politicians lead the field in this type of misrepresentation). In addition it is too often the case that the voice of the teaching profession is muted, or absent, from the debates and decisions which affect their professional practice. This situation must change if educational standards are to improve and if low teacher morale is not to lead to a crisis in teacher recruitment and retention.
5.30pm - 7.00pm Brunel University, Eastern Gateway Auditorium.
