Film and TV student Owen Buggy has won a coveted internship at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2017. The internship will give Owen, a final year student, the chance to make a short film and to network with film professionals from around the globe at the world’s most prestigious festival and marketplace.

FTV tutor Dr. Piotr Cieplak’s short film Memory Cards won a prize at the Afrykamera Festival in Poland, one of several events at which it has been screened. The film, set in Rwanda and Zanzibar, explores the boundary between documentary and fiction, also challenging stereotypes of how Africa appears to westerners. Piotr is currently working on a feature-length documentary about the use of personal photography in commemoration and remembrance in Rwanda.

Recent book publications by FTV staff include Quality Hollywood: Markers of Distinction in Contemporary Studio Film, by Prof. Geoff King, and Celebrity: Capitalism and the Making of Fame, by Dr. Milly Williamson
