I have done my PhD research work at the Centre of Immunology of Marseille-Luminy (CIML) and received my PhD in Immunology in 2002 from the University of Aix-Marseille, France. I have identified sets of genes differentially expressed during the development of T lymphocytes in mice and characterised their protein products. I have produced knock-out mice deficient for the coronin-1a gene and we have demonstrated that the actin-binding coronin-1A protein is crucial for the development and activation of T cells. After a post-doc at Institut Pasteur, Paris, I have joined the Hong Kong University-Pasteur Research Centre, first as a post-doc, then as a Research Assistant Professor and leader of the Virus-Host Interactions group.
Since 2003, my research focuses on virus interactions with cellular host factors. My objective is to understand how viruses exploit the cells during early and late stages of the viral life cycle and which restriction mechanisms cells have developed to counteract viral infections. I have developed projects on human coronaviruses, dengue virus and influenza A virus with the objective to identify common and differential pathways used by enveloped viruses during critical stages of their life cycle.
The Virus-Host Interactions group works on:
- the characterization of intracellular trafficking properties of viral structural proteins, their mode of assembly and budding of particles from cellular membranes.
- the identification of novel virus-host interactions mainly through high-throughput genomic scale screenings.
- the identification of the molecular mechanisms responsible for enhancement or restriction of infection by host factors.
The ultimate goal is to identify novel targets for anti-viral strategies.
I joined Brunel University London in August 2011 and continue the research started in Hong Kong. I am Lecturer in Medical Microbiology. Since October 2013, I am Fellow of the Brunel ETC technology platform.
