How to Apply for Postgraduate Taught Courses

Finding the right Course

You should look through our available Postgraduate Taught courses either by using our course finder or by each Department webpage.

How to Apply

Applications should be made online through the “Apply” button on the right hand side of each individual course page.

Except in the case of Brunel University London graduates, applications must be accompanied by documentary proof of the qualifications held (including those showing English language proficiency for those whose first language is not English). Brunel graduates who require a Tier 4 visa will still need to provide their certificates when applying.

Documents needed for application

An academic transcript for each previous degree you have completed

We can accept a scanned copy of your transcript if applying online, however you must bring the original with you when you register. If your transcript is not in English you will also need to provide a verified English translation.

Reference 1

An academic reference from the academic institution you most recently attended

It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that references are supplied. These should normally be on headed paper and signed by the referee.

Reference 2

A second academic reference or a reference from your current or most recent employer

If required, see above.

Sponsorship details

A copy of paperwork confirming the award of sponsorship

You can find the English requirement for your course on the 'Entry Criteria' tab of the course pages. Read which English language qualifications Brunel accepts.

A copy of your passport

Personal statement

A brief personal statement in support of your application

Typically this will be a brief explanation of why you want to pursue a degree at Brunel University London. It can be uploaded as an attachment if you already have an electronic copy or it can be typed directly into the online form later in your application.

Any relevant certificates

This includes any certificates you consider relevant to your application (not already submitted under transcripts or language qualifications).

Other documents

Any other relevant documentation

This includes any additional information which you consider relevant to your application, for example a Curriculum Vitae if required for your course.

During the next phase of the online application process, you will be able to access the online application form itself. Make sure you have the following information to hand:

  • Personal details
  • Academic qualifications (level, subject, where studied, results, year taken)
  • Work experience details (name of organisations, start and end dates)

If you find that you don’t have the required information at any stage, you can save your progress and exit the online application process and then resume it later.

When to apply

There is no absolute deadline for applying for a postgraduate course, however we recommend that you apply as soon as possible as popular courses often fill up early. It can also take several months to get a student Tier 4 visa.

The applicant may be required to attend for interview at the University before a decision on the application is made. For applicants living outside the UK, it may be possible to arrange telephone and web conference interviews.

At the beginning of the first session, every student (full-time, part-time and distance learning) must register for their course and, at the beginning of all subsequent sessions, they must enrol. All students must pay their fees at the beginning of every session.
