Mathematical Sciences Scholarship

The Mathematical Sciences Scholarship is open to all students who choose to undertake any Mathematics degree programme in the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

Application

Main Scheme
Applicants must have made Brunel their firm choice (either Conditional Firm or Unconditional Firm with UCAS) by the end of July. Those who become firm after that date will only be considered if funds remain after the initial allocation of scholarships. Applicants cannot receive more than one scholarship. If they are eligible for more than one scholarship, they will be awarded the one which will be the most financially beneficial.

Clearing
Applicants who wish to come to Brunel through Clearing may be considered for a scholarship, although preference will be given to students who made Brunel their firm choice through the UCAS main scheme.

All eligible applicants will be sent an email by the Admissions Office confirming that they will be considered for a scholarship in August. Scholarships are allocated as soon as A-level result are available. Any scholarships not allocated at that time, will be given on a first come basis to students applying through Clearing or whose results are received late. Successful students will be informed by email or letter by the end of August. 

Eligibility

Eligibility criteria are reviewed annually.

To be eligible for consideration of a Mathematical Sciences Scholarship, a student must:

  • achieve A-level grades of at least AAB (with an A in Mathematics or Further Mathematics). Students who achieve 35 points from the International Baccalaureate Diploma, including grade 7 in higher level Mathematics, will also be eligible;
  • maintain at least an upper second class honours standard at the end of each academic year (with no retrievals). Failure to achieve this standard will result in the scholarship being withdrawn;
  • be paying UK fees;
  • have made Brunel their firm choice (either Conditional Firm or Unconditional Firm with UCAS) by end of July each year.

Full Terms and Conditions 2012/13

1. UCAS Applications

2. Award

Students undertaking a BSc Mathematics programme will receive £1000 annually for three years. MMaths students will be eligible for four years of funding. Students out on a work placement year will not receive an award for that year.

Eligibility

  • Students must achieve A-level grades of at least AAB (with an A in Mathematics or Further Mathematics). Students who achieve 35 points from the International Baccalaureate Diploma, including grade 7 in higher level Mathematics, will also be eligible.
  • In order to receive the award for all years of study, students must maintain at least an upper second class honours standard at the end of each academic year (with no retrievals). Failure to achieve this standard will result in the scholarship being withdrawn.
  • Eligibility is restricted to those students paying UK fees.

3. Allocation

The 10 Scholarships will be allocated as soon as A-level results are available. Any scholarships not allocated at that time, will be given on a first come basis to students applying through Clearing or whose results are received late. Successful students will be informed by email or letter at the beginning of September. 

4. Payments

Awards will be payable on the following dates:

  • 1st week of December
  • 1st week of March
  • 1st week of June

Conditions of Scholarship Payment
All payments will be made direct to a bank account provided that:

  • the student is enrolled at the University on an undergraduate degree programme of study at the time of the payment 
  • the student maintains at least an upper second class honours standard each academic year (with no retrievals)
  • the student has abided by the Rules of Discipline, as stated in Senate Regulation 6
  • the student has no debts with Brunel University
  • the student has a UK bank account

Withdrawal of Scholarship

The University reserves the right to withdraw a scholarship from anyone who is found to have misled the University about any aspect of their eligibility and to seek repayment of any monies already paid by appropriate means.

If a student changes to a programme of study outside the Department of Mathematical Sciences, the scholarship will be withdraw.
