National Scholarship Programme (NSP)
The NSP is a Government-backed scheme to provide additional financial support to certain eligible students. It is funded jointly by the Government and the University.Value: £2,000 fee waiver plus £1,000 taken either as:
(a) an additional fee waiver or
(b) discount on the cost of on-campus accommodation or
(c) a cash award.
How many: 128 funded by the Government + 188 funded by Brunel (total of 316 in 2012)
For how many years: First year only.
Note: Receipt of a full grant does not represent an entitlement to NSP.
Application process for full-time students
Eligible applicants submitting their UCAS application prior to 15th January deadline, and who are made an offer to study at Brunel, will be given access to an online scholarship application form which must be completed and submitted by 10th March. Successful students will be informed in early September, following confirmation of eligibility. Scholarship applications received after 10th March may be considered in September for any remaining unallocated scholarships.
Application process for part-time students
Eligible applicants submitting a direct course application form prior to 1 August and who are made an offer to study at Brunel, will be asked to complete a scholarship application form in August which must be completed and submitted by 31st August. Successful students will be informed in early September, following confirmation of eligibility.
To be eligible for consideration of an NSP Scholarship, a student must:
- have an assessed household income of £25,000 or less;
- meet at least one of the following under-represented criteria;
- be a care leaver
- be a mature student aged 21 or above at the start of their course
- have attended a maintained school or college in one of the six London Boroughs with whom the University operates Widening Participation Partnerships: Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow
- have a disability (including dyslexia)
- come from a low socio-economic background
- be in the first generation of their family to study in higher education
- come from a low participation neighbourhood
- must be ordinarily resident in England (i.e. excludes those living in Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland or EU, Overseas Territories, Gibraltar etc) in order to receive the maintenance element of the scholarship i.e. £1,000. EU and part-time students are eligible to receive the fee waiver element i.e. £2,000 (pro-rata for part-time students);
- be eligible to receive a tuition fee loan from Student Finance England and have consented to the sharing of data submitted to the Student Loans Company;
- have made Brunel University their firm choice through UCAS by 9 May;
- have submitted a completed scholarship application by 10 March.
