Nexen Scholarships
Annual Value: £3,000 cash award
How many: 2 Mechanical Engineering students
For how many years: 4 years (includes MEng year but not placement year)(subject to meeting progression criteria)
Application process: completion of an online application form by 31 July
Eligibility: Two scholarship will be allocated in early September, following publication of UK 'A' level examination results, to the applicants who have achieved the greatest number of tariff points and who meet the following additional criteria:
- must be ordinarily resident in the UK
- must be from a low-income household (those with an annual household income of less than £25,000 as assessed by the manner defined in Brunel’s standard terms and conditions)
- must meet in full the academic conditions of their offer from Brunel
- must have been accepted to study Mechanical Engineering at Brunel University
- must be eligible to receive a tuition fee loan from Student Finance England and consent to the sharing of data submitted to the Student Finance England
- must agree to take part in publicity and reports back to Nexen
In the event that more than two candidates have the same tariff points and satisfy these conditions, preference will be given first to those studying for the qualification of MEng in Mechanical Engineering.
In the event that more than two candidates still fulfill these criteria, preference will be given to the candidates with the lowest household income.
In the event that no candidates satisfy all of these conditions and have household income below £25,000, the panel will award the scholarships to the candidates with the lowest household income in the range £25,000 or above.
Scholarships will be awarded based on results received at the University at the time of allocation. Late or amended results cannot normally be considered.
The scholarship will be in the form of a £3,000 cash award, each year for a maximum of four years, provided that the progression criteria, as shown in section 3.9 of these Terms and Conditions, have been met. A separate scholarship is available during the placement year for those who meet the criteria and other placement bursaries may be available for those on an unpaid placement without paid expenses.
The successful candidates must, in addition to the University standard terms and conditions relating to promotion of Scholarships, be willing to reasonably participate in activities with the donor, Nexen Ltd, to market and raise the profile of the Scholarships as requested.
