Work While You Study
Part-time and vacation work
Working during your studies is an excellent way not only to earn extra cash but also to gain valuable experience and develop your transferable skills. Brunel’s Job Shop can help you to find part-time, temporary and vacation work in administration, retail, government, science and many other areas. You might be based on campus, in and around Uxbridge, in Central London or further afield.
All jobs advertised by the Job Shop pay at least the National Minimum Wage or in most cases above this amount.
The University recommends that undergraduate students work a maximum of 15 hours per week during term-time. Employers who advertise with the Job Shop are aware of this and may be flexible to your academic timetable.
International students should always seek individual immigration advice for working rights in the UK.

Work placements
Many courses at Brunel offer ‘sandwich’ work placements as an integral part of study. Some students fear that an extra year at University will be a financial burden, a placement almost always pays you back: the average starting salary for graduates who completed a placement during the course of their studies is consistently higher in than for those who did not – in 2009, the difference was £6,054 a year.
Most 12-month placements are paid, with salaries ranging from £14,000 to £20,000 a year. Voluntary placements are common in certain sectors, but students who would face financial difficulty in undertaking an unpaid placement may be able to apply for a Brunel Placement Bursary (subject to confirmation).
