Doroteja Maklin is a doctoral research student who joined ETC in November 2012.
She is currently involved in collaborative project joining ETC Brunel and TWI Ltd, investigating laser cutting of fibre reinforced polymers.
Doroteja first studied at University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) at the Faculty of mechanical Engineering where apart from General Mechanical Engineering she specialised in Production and Welding Technologies.
Alongside her study she worked as a Researcher at the Faculty, where she obtained valuable experiences from welding techniques, product design and development, non-conventional machining, and injection moulding of plastic products.
She was also involved in leading of Student organisation of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana as a vice-president.
Doroteja completed her MSc degree in Ultra Precision Engineering at Cranfield University in 2012 with thesis entitled “Surface Modification of Plastic using Laser Beams”. During this applied research at TWI she gained laser-mater interaction knowledge, which is currently being used to develop a new technique as the output of her PhD.
At the moment Doroteja is getting trained for carrying out analysis of materials using microscopy, electron microscopy, diffraction, fluorescence, and other X-ray methods for imaging and elemental identification, that she will use during her project to evaluate laser cutting outcomes and will help her to develop optimal processing parameters for the project.
