Dr. Andy Russell – Lecturer in Climate Change – has been awarded the Royal Meteorological Society’s Michael Hunt Award. The award is given for excellence in increasing the understanding of meteorology and its allied disciplines among members of the general public.

Andy told us: “it’s a great honour to receive this award. I love telling people about our weather and climate and trying to come up with new ways to explain how the atmosphere works. It’s also important to get out of the university and tell people about our research – this is something I think that we do really well in the Institute.”

The award recognises Dr. Russell’s activities online (e.g. blogging and tweeting) and with the media as well as face-to-face activities at schools, science festivals and public lectures, including talks at several branches of the Skeptics in the Pub movement. He has blogged about winning the award here.
