EU and International Environmental Law (IE 5510) – 30 credits

Delivered by the Brunel Law School, in term 2 (approx 2 hrs/week for 12 weeks)

Main aims of the module:

  • to study and assess foundational principles and structures underpinning environmental law at the level of the European Union as well as internationally
  • to study the core issues that influence the development and application of international and EU law on the protection of the environment
  • to study the impact of EU environmental law, given its special legal significance for EU Member States

Learning activities:
Lectures, seminars, presentations, provision of selected extracts from commentaries, legislative materials and/or case judgments
Students are encouraged to participate in a moot in which they will be asked to act as opposing teams of advocates in a disputed environmental law case before an international tribunal before a ‘judge’.
