Dissertation (IE5500) – 60 Credits
Students will be required to submit a dissertation for consideration for the award of an MSc degree. The dissertation module carries 60 credits and must be passed with a grade C or above to achieve an award of MSc, in addition to an appropriate grade profile in the 120 credits of taught modules. Students will normally be allowed to begin work on their dissertation at the start of registration. The student, however, will not be allowed to submit a dissertation until all taught parts of the course have been completed to the satisfaction of the Board of Examiners.
The dissertation should be on a topic of the student’s own choosing within a relevant field of environmental science, and which draws upon the research and teaching interests of the Institute for the Environment. We encourage students to develop a dissertation research topic through the synoptic assessment for the Research and Critical Skills module (IE5511), which is a research proposal.
