Water Conservation Bursary

Every year IfE offers a £4000 scholarship to one of our students. Students wishing to apply for the bursary should, in addition to following the formal procedure for applying for the Masters course, prepare a 500 word essay or report that clearly indicates their interest in environmental issues related to water. This is open to students on the Environmental Science and Climate Change MSc courses.

The essay may also contain information on ideas that the candidate has in relation to their dissertation topic, as successful applicants will be required to undertake a dissertation project that is focussed on issues related to water.

In years that have a particularly strong set of applicaions we may offer two £2000 scholarships instead of one £4000.

Criteria for the selection of the successful candidate

No applications for the bursary will be considered unless a Brunel University application form has been completed, and an offer of a place (conditional or unconditional) made to the candidate by the deadline below. The application should demonstrate:

  • An interest in, and understanding of, issues related to water, which may be demonstratedthrough previous studies, membership of organisations or voluntary groups.
  • An ability to communicate effectively, at an appropriate academic level. This shouldinclude appropriate references to the literature.

The award is funded by The Worshipful Company of Water Conservators, a Livery Company of the City of London. The company has particular interest in issues related to the River Thames and London, and although it is not a requirement that candidates have a specific interest in this location, candidates with particular experience, or ideas for dissertation topics which are of particular relevance, may have an advantage.

As a condition of the award, the successful candidate must undertake a dissertation in a topic related to water. It is also expected that those awarded bursaries will attend a luncheon as a guest of the Water Conservators and possibly present their work to the sponsors. http://www.waterconservators.org
