Beginners' Modern Standard Arabic (Standard)

Arabic is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, having roughly 280 million native speakers and 250 million non-native speakers worldwide. It is the official language of 25 countries, the third largest after English and French. In the western world at present the demand for Arabic speakers and translators far outstrips the current supply, meaning Arabic is a very useful language to know. The Middle East is also one of the world's fastest growing economic areas. Arabic is also the liturgical language of Islam. Arabic has been a major influence on dozens of other languages, including English. Words that come from Arabic include; admiral, adobe, albatross, alcove, algorithm, artichoke, assassin, caliber, candy, carat, chemistry, cipher, coffee, cotton, cover...
