Mandarin (sometimes known as Mandarin Chinese outside China) is the world's most widely spoken language, with an estimated 885 million speakers worldwide. It is the official language of the People's Republic of China, the world's most populated country. With China fast emerging as a new economic superpower, there has never been a better or more profitable time to learn this exciting and historic language.
Level: Beginner - For those who have no prior knowledge of this language.

About your teacher:
Shejiao Xu, Mandarin
I am a native Mandarin speaker with nearly ten years of teaching experience both in China and England. I have a PhD degree in Education and an MA in Linguistics. I taught English and Mandarin for five years at Xi'an International University. Since 2005, I have been based mainly at Brunel University for Mandarin teaching. I also work for SOAS and King's College as a Mandarin tutor.
I am interested in using modern technology in language teaching, in applying learning theories in practice and in understanding the learning process of my students.
My publications cover topics such as English language teaching, translation studies and cultural identities. At present, I am involved in compiling online Mandarin learning materials for SOAS.
