Beginners' Spanish (class 2)


Spanish is one of the world's most widely spoken languages, with an estimated 500 million people either native speakers or fluent non native speakers. If you count only native speakers Spanish outranks English in terms of number of speakers. Spanish is spoken widely in Europe and the Americas, being the native language for much of South America and the second most widely spoken language in the USA, rapidly gaining in popularity. 

Students on this course, and anyone interested in learning the language generally, can now join the university's Portuguese and Spanish Speakers Society

Level: Beginner - For those who have no prior knowledge of this language.

Carmen Yardley, Spanish

I am a native speaker of Spanish with 18 years of Spanish teaching experience. I have taught in secondary schools, adult education and private companies and have worked as an Examiner for GCSE, A Level and IOL.

I am part of the review panel for the textbook Palgrave Spanish 1. I have a Spanish Teaching Degree and teaching qualifications in both Further and Adult Education. I specialise in Spanish grammar and Spanish culture and particularly enjoy teaching my language and the culture of my country. My approach is friendly and I emphasise the communicative aspect of language learning.
