English@Brunel

Overview

English@Brunel is a year-round programme designed to improve your general and academic English to prepare you for academic study in the UK.  You will have the opportunity to practise English in everyday situations, develop your knowledge and understanding of grammar and vocabulary and improve your academic skills.

Course Features

  • Study only as long as you need to, with a range of courses from 10 - 50 weeks
  • Small class sizes, maximum of 14 students
  • Classes focus on academic English to help prepare you for studies, and general English for day to day situations
  • A fun social programme, which includes weekly events on campus and trips to popular UK destinations, where you can practise your English in an informal setting and make new friends
  • English language test at the end of your programme 
  • Visa support at the end of your programme

Course Content & Assessment

The course focuses on improving your academic and general English skills. Classes will include modules on:

  • General English
  • Academic reading, writing and research skills
  • Listening and note taking
  • Seminar skills
  • Pronunciation and presentation skills
  • Grammar and Vocabulary Development

This is a full time programme and comprises 20 hours study per week.  The course focuses on both general and academic skills

Course Assessement

At the end of the programme, all students following the English@Brunel programme will sit the Brunel English Language Test BrunELT.  You will be tested on your writing, reading, speaking and listening skills and will receive a score for each component as well as an overall score.

 * Please note this is just a guide, and the course we recommend will depend on the academic course you have applied for and the individual scores of your English qualification. **For courses running until September, students must hold an academic course offer at Brunel.

Please note the minimum age for all IPLC courses is 17.

  • Taken a recognised English qualification, such as IELTS or TOEFL
    (If you have not taken a recognised English test please contact iplc@brunel.ac.uk to request a Placement Test)
  • Checked to see which start date is suitable for you
