Travel Test Structure
The BrunELT in your country differs slightly to the test we run on Brunel Campus. As part of this test we also include a section on grammar, alongside testing your listening, reading and writing skills.
The format of the BrunELT in your country consists of the following;
Grammar (45 minutes)
Multiple Choice Test
Listening (20 minutes)
A spoken lecture, where you have to demonstrate your understanding by:
- Part A of the lecture - filling in gaps in text with words and/or numbers
- Part B of the lecture - answering comprehension questions as you listen
Reading (30 minutes)
A written text, where you have to demonstrate your understanding by
- Part A - answering comprehension questions
- Part B - answering vocabulary questions
- Part C - answering reference questions
Writing (45 minutes)
A timed, unseen essay of between 300 - 700 words on a subject of general interest.
Speaking (3 minutes)
A short interview (this may be recorded and marked in the UK).
How can I prepare for the BrunELT ?
The best way to prepare for the BrunELT is to read and listen to English (for example you may have access to good quality English newspapers or the BBC news). You should also try to work on increasing your vocabulary and noticing how the language is used,
