London Mayor and Brunel Pro VC in India Visa call
Mayor of London Boris Johnson and Geoff Rogers, Brunel's Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research, received a warm welcome at their recent visit to Amity University in India. The event was part of the Mayor's recent tour, aimed at strengthening business and educational links between London and India.
During the visit the Mayor (an honorary graduate of Brunel) and Professor Rodgers were welcomed with flower garlands and invited to take part in a traditional ritual. The event saw them meeting with the founders and senior staff of the meeting, before the Mayor gave a talk to a packed auditorium where he continued his calls for an easing of visa restrictions for Indian students. On his visit the Mayor has been keen to promote the fact that London universities such as Brunel are still welcoming Indian students, and called on the government to reverse immigration policies seen as having a negative impact on prospective students around the world.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor was interviewed about the issues the current visa system is causing by ITV News. You can watch the report here.
