Hiding and Revealing sections on your "My u-Link" screen |
|
On the My u-Link page, click the Edit Course List button (pencil icon) at the top-right of your course list.
From this page, you can hide, show and reorder the sections in your course list:
- To hide or show a single section, click the Hide Link or Show Link button in the Visibility column.
- To hide or show multiple sections, tick the boxes next to them, then click Show or Hide at the bottom of the list.
- To move one or more sections, tick the box(es) next to it/them, then click the Move button next to where you want to move it/them to and select either Move Selected Above or Move Selected Below.
- Click the Restore Default button at the bottom of the list to make all sections visible and sort them alphabetically.
If the name of a section is truncated (ends with "..."), you can hover the pointer over the name to see the full name.
When you are finished, click the
My u-Link tab to return to the My u-Link page.
Hiding sections can be quite useful as the more sections you have on the My u-Link page, the longer it takes to display.

u-Link hangs/freezes my Internet browser |
|
The most common cause of this issue is when a prompt on your computer
has lost its "focus" (it ends up behind the window you are looking at).
You can re-focus the window by pressing (and holding) the Alt key on your
keyboard and tapping the Tab key, if any of these items looks like a coffee cup keep
tapping the Tab key
until you read this, and then release the Alt key.
This should re-focus the prompt, click OK on this prompt -
your browser should now unfreeze/hang.
There are 3 main causes for this:
- An incompatible Java version (see Computer Set Up)
- Not allowing pages to full load before clicking on the next
- You have left your computer inactive for a while

I am no longer prompted to "Open" or "Save" a file in Internet Explorer |
|
When you open files in u-Link by default Internet Explorer asks you whether you'd like to "Open" or "Save" the file. If you've turned this feature off and would like to re-enable this standard Internet Explorer feature the below instructions will help:
- Double click on My Computer, select Tools from the menu bar and then Folder Options
- The Folder Options dialog will appear. Select the File Types tab.
- A list will appear showing all the File Types and their associated programs, find the file type that no longer prompts you to "Open" or "Save", eg PPT - Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation, DOC - Microsoft Word Document, etc.
- Click Advanced, the Edit File Type dialog will appear, as shown right.
- There are three options (as highlighted): Confirm open after download, Always show extension and Browse in same window. Ensure Confirm open after download is selected, and click OK.
- Click OK.
- Try accessing the file again, it should now prompt you whether you wish to "Open" or "Save" the document.

I get a "The download of the specified resource has failed" error when trying to open an audio or video file
|
|
This error may occur with audio and video files that open in Windows Media
Player because it is unable to play media from a secure connection such as that
used by u-Link.
To work around this limitation, you can change your computer settings as
described in I am no longer prompted to "Open" or "Save"
a file in Internet Explorer, for the appropriate file type, such as WMA,
MP3, WMV. You will then be able to download the file and open it from your
computer.
