2008-09

  • Research Assessment Exercise 2008
  • Dr Christine Riefa gave an academic seminar at the University of Exeter (Cornwall Campus, on video-link to other campuses), on 3 December 2008. Dr Riefa will discuss the protection of consumers on online auction sites, the title of her book to be published by Ashgate in 2010. For more details, see: http://law.exeter.ac.uk/seminars/index.shtml
  • The Brunel Law School has joined the "Euro-American Chair for the legal protection of consumers", a project funded by the University of Cantabria in Spain and the Cantabrian local government. A fund of around 100,000 euros per year is made available to a research & development network of Universities in Europe and the Americas. The Brunel Law School has now secured membership of the "Euro-American Chair for the legal protection of consumers", and Dr Riefa has obtained funding (flights, all accommodation costs and conference fee) from the Chair to participate at the next biennal international conference organised by the Chair that will take place in the Dominican Republic in May 2009.

In addition membership will bring the following opportunities:
    • PhD students (in consumer law) can apply for grants from the Chair.
    • An opportunity to bid for funding (from the Chair) for research projects and for seminars / conferences.
    • Free places at the biennal international conference for Brunel Law staff.
    • An opportunity to benefit from Chair's money for publishing books and research in other formats.
Furthermore, thanks to the Chair's close links with prestigious South American Universities, Brunel Law School will be able to raise its profile in this geographic region in the field of Consumer law and hope to attract new students.
