Bar Council of India recognition

Monday 22 October 2012

We are pleased to announce that Brunel Law School’s LLB degree received recognition from the Bar Council of India (BCI) this summer. This means that students doing an LLB at Brunel will now be able to qualify as advocates in India (subject to a number of conditions). There are just around 80 Law Schools worldwide that have had their LLB degrees recognised by the Bar Council of India. The list of foreign Universities recognised by BCI is available here: http://www.barcouncilofindia.org/about/legal-education/list-of-foreign-universities-whose-degrees-in-law-are-recognised-by-the-bar-council-of-india/

“BCI recognition is evidence of BLS’s continued excellence in teaching, research and the student experience”, commented Dr Dimitrios Giannoulopoulos, the School’s Deputy Head for Learning & Teaching. He added that “the delegates from the Bar Council of India visiting Brunel in January 2012 were most impressed with the expertise of BLS academics, the enthusiasm of our students, the breadth and depth of our teaching and extra-curricular activities as well as the state-of-the-art facilities at Brunel. The Bar Council has some very stringent requirements in relation to all these areas, but BLS satisfied all of them and rightfully gained recognition for its LLB degree”.
