THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS(1965) is an Oscar nominated film directed by Gillo Pontecorvo. The film recounts several occurrences during the Algerian Revolution against the French colonial occupation, including the French Army’s torture methods. Banned in France for several years, the film retriggered controversy after the Pentagon organized a screening in 2003.
