Passport information
All students
The name that I registered under is different to the one stated on my passport. Is this OK?
For work and visa purposes it is important that the names that you register under match the names stated on your passport.
It is Brunel University policy that the name listed on your student record is the name that will appear on your certificate when you are awarded your degree. Once your degree has been awarded it will not be possible to change your name and re-print your certificate. You can contact the Student Centre anytime from when you register until just before your degree is awarded to request a name change (please note that you will need to present your valid and current passport when making this request).
My passport is with the Home Office and I might not have it back in time for Registration. What should I do?
You need to bring your letter from the Home Office as evidence that they have your passport. You will also need to bring alternative photo identification eg a photo driving licence, national identify card, etc.
British citizens
I’ve never had a passport. What should I do?
You need to apply for a passport before coming to Brunel for Registration. For information on how to apply for a passport, go to the DirectGov Passports page.
If you have left it very late to apply (ie after 1 September), you will need to make an appointment to visit a Regional Passport Office. Go to the DirectGov Passports page for further information on how to do this.
My passport has expired. Do I need to get a new one?
If you hold a British passport which has expired within the last 12 months, this will be acceptable at Registration.
If you hold a British passport which expired over a year ago, you should apply to renew your passport. Please go to the DirectGov Passports page for information on how to do this.
EU citizens
Can I bring my Travel Document instead of a passport?
Yes.
International students
What documents should I bring? You should bring your current passport and your visa. If you have a TIER 4 visa or a TIER 1 Post Study Work visa, it must be valid for the whole duration of your programme of study at Brunel.
If you are in any doubt about whether your visa is suitable for enrolment, please email immigration@brunel.ac.uk prior to arriving for Registration.
My passport is with the UKBA. What should I do?
If you are in the process of applying for a new visa for your Brunel course and have submitted your current passport with your application, you should bring with you to Registration:
- either the UKBA letter which confirms that the UKBA have received and are considering your application;
- or your original Brunel International Client Care letter, which confirms that we are processing your visa application through the Batch scheme.
