Arriving in the UK

At the airport

During your flight to the UK the flight crew will hand out Landing Cards. You will need to complete these and include:

  • Name and date of birth
  • Your address in the UK
  • Occupation, in your case this would be student
  • Arrival flight details: you can find these on your ticket

When you land at the airport you will need to collect your bags, go through Passport Control and Customs before you can enter the UK.

Passport Control

There will be two queues, one for EU/EEA nationals visitors and one for non-EEA (International). Remember, you will need to show the Immigration Officer some of your documents as you pass through. Make sure you have ready your:

  • Passport
  • Visa
  • Offer letter from Brunel/IPLC/LIBT
  • Completed landing card
  • Evidence of your funds to cover tuition fees, living costs, sponsor letter/scholarship letter (if applicable)
  • Medical certificate (if required)

The Immigration Officer may ask you a few questions in English to check you understand what you are doing and where you are going. There is no need to be nervous, just answer as well as you can.

At Customs there are 3 channels: Green (no goods to declare), Red (goods to declare) and Blue (for EEA nationals only where luggage has already been cleared)

Even if you come through the Green channel, a Customs officer might occasionally ask to look at your bags.
You should NEVER agree to carry anything for another person through the Customs channel.

Safety on Arrival

After a long journey you may be tired. The UK is generally a friendly place, but if you have just arrived it is a good idea to take some extra care, especially around the airports.

  •  Keep a close eye on your bags and make sure you have them with you at all times
  •  Keep valuables such as wallets and phones out of sight
  • Use only public transport, black cabs or our free Airport Welcome service
