Jobs and Careers
The Placement and Careers Centre
Whether you’re looking for a part-time job to help support your studies, gain work experience, get some advice on the course you have chosen and the potential career paths you could consider or wondering when you should start applying for a placement, the Placement and Careers Centre (PCC) is a dedicated team to assist you. You can visit their website for a full range of services or connect with them on Facebook or Twitter.
While you study
The University recommends that students work no more than 15 hours a week during term time. This is to allow enough time for your academic studies yet provide time for that all important work experience!
The Placement & Careers Centre’s (PCC) Job Shop is on hand to help and gives you access to hundreds of part-time and temporary vacancies both on campus and in the local area through our vacancy listings. Find out more about the PCC Job Shop and view our current vacancies.
Advice for International Students
International students on a Tier 4 student visa can work up to a maximum of 20 hours a week during term time (although Brunel recommends a maximum of 15 for undergraduate students)). The PCC can also provide you with basic visa information with regard to working in the UK that is general to all students. The information that we provide is as accurate and up-to-date as possible and is based on information leaflets provided by The UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) - the UK’s national advisory body for international students.
We always recommend that you seek immigration advice specific to you. You can find a list of accredited immigration advisers at Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner.
You can also get information and advice from the UKCISA Advice Line.
The following links from UKCISA and the UK Border Agency (UKBA) should cover all the visa related questions you may have if you would like to work during your course. Please ensure that you check the pages regularly as immigration schemes and conditions are frequently changed or updated:

- UKBA - Working in the UK

Sandwich Placements
As an Undergraduate Student, whether you have already decided to undertake a placement or still thinking about it, the PCC has a team of Placement Officers to assist you along the way.
In the autumn term of your second year you will meet the placement officer who is assigned to your school of study (please note that professional courses in the schools of Health Sciences and Social Care and the School of Sport and Education administer placements in the school not by the PCC) Your Placement Officer and School will organise an information session to explain exactly what placement entails, what students have done previously and the types of jobs that you can apply to. All you need to do is be there and ask as many questions as you like!
